Picture | Name | Notes |
McBurrows Mole Family | 2011 UK version. Slightly lighter grey than other versions and came in usual clothes rather than bright jackets. Babies were released separately and individually. Dad is Digger, mom is Heidi, sister is Molly, brother is Muddy, baby girl is Mo, baby boy is Monty. I think. Family is 4440 (Flair), babies are 4064/4441 (Tomy, Flair). |
|
Heidi McBurrows | Version with light blue jacket. Came with 1987 UK and US Tomy releases.
McBurrows Mole Family | 2019/2020 Japan/UK re-release version. Online exclusive. Both sets are identical.
Kitsune Fox Family | 2002 Japan Don't particularly want the standing baby in blue. Each came individually except the crawling and sitting babies which came with each other. Other releases were varyingly called the Honey Fox Family and the Slydale Fox Family (not to be confused with the older, darker solid brown Slydale Fox Family), but I slightly prefer the clothing that came with the original Japanese release. English names: Dad is Slick, mom is Velvette, sister is Scarlet and brother is Buster. |
|
Babblebrook Beaver Twins | 2003 US Calico Critters release by International Playthings The beaver twins did have other releases, but only the Calico Critters versions have teeth. UK names were Bubble and Bucky. |
|
Chestnut Raccoon Family | This version is the 1986 Japan release, which had lighter markings than later releases. I slightly prefer this version, but the later open-handed 1992 UK and 1988 US releases are also good too. All versions of the babies are fine, but don't really care for the ones in yellow. |
|
Ivory Dog Family | From the 1987 Urban Life range from Japan. At least three variants of the sister exist. I like the dogtooth dress one the best, but they're all cute. |
|
Chestnut Dog Family | From the 1987 Urban Life range from Japan. Also called the Maroon Dog Family. |
|
Puddleton Duck Family | 2021 re-release of a 1988 Urban Life family. In this version the ducklings look slightly paler, and the father's hat is plastic rather than fabric. The father is George, the mother is Eliza and the triplets are Joseph (blue), Harriet (yellow) and Beatrise (pink). |
|
Corntop/Hoppinset Rabbit Family | 1989 Tomy release in the UK and US There was a second edition release in the UK in 1990 which have open hands, which I prefer slightly but they're much rarer. |
|
Hoppinset Grandparents | 1989 US Tomy release
Truffle Wild Boar Family | There was a 1993 release by Tomy, and two releases in 2002 and 2006 by Flair, all in the UK. They are all pretty much identical. Dad's name is Eustace Barrington, mom is Victoria and the babies are Felicity, Charlie and Susan Mary. |
|
Whiskers Calico Cat Family | This is the 2004 Flair UK release, which has open hands and slightly different outfits from the original. |
|
Renard Red Fox Family | 1995 UK Tomy releases. These versions did not come as a complete family, but instead came with different accessory and playsets. The Tomy versions have the black lines on their faces stop before their eyes, which I prefer to the later Flair releases that have the stripes reach the eyes. Eric came with Eric Renard's Playground set, Roxy came with Roxy Renard's Home Interior Set, and I'm not sure what sets Tomy Baden and Mikaela came with, but Danny and Carrie came with a carousel set. The babies also had a 1995 Tomy release where the colours of their outfits were swapped. |
|
Mulberry Raccoon Family | Pictured is the 1995 Japan release, which has the best outfits, and are my favourite version by a slight bit. The 1996 Tomy and 2005 Flair UK releases have open hands but worse outfits, so it's a bit of a tradeoff. Really, all versions of the family are good.
George and Mildred Mulberry Raccoon Grandparents | 2010 Flair UK
Martha Mulberry | The older Mulberry sister. Came with a 2012 Flair UK canoe set.
Edward Mulberry | The Mulberry uncle. Came with a 2011 Flair UK toymaker's set.
Moss Deer Family | Pictured is the 2004 Flair UK release, which has slightly bigger spots and a slightly different print on the sister and mother's dresses compared to the original 1997 Tomy UK release. I prefer this version ever so slightly, but really they're pretty much the same.
Moss Deer Grandparents | A 2005 Flair UK release. Only came with the Willow Hall playset from certain stores.
Waddlington Duck Family | Both 1997 Tomy and 2005 Flair UK releases are identical, as far as I can tell.
Macavity Cat Family | Look, there are so many versions of these guys. Pictured is the 2002 darker Japan release, which is overall my favourite in terms of clothes and colours, but they're all pretty good. I prefer releases with darker stripes and think they look best in pinks, browns and purples, rather than the yellows and oranges from later releases. Grandpa Macavity is missing from this picture, he should be wearing a little vest. I think the grandparents were exclusive to the 2000 and 2002 Japanese releases, and an older sister and brother were exclusive to the 2011 Flair UK "Celebrations" release.
Older Sister Macavity | A 2002 limited edition Japanese release.
Kennelworth Dalmatian Family | This is the 2004 International Playthings US Calico Critter release. The 2002 and 2004 Flair UK releases are pretty much the same but have standing babies, and I prefer these ones. |
|
Sparkle Pink Rabbit Family | A limited edition 2003 Japan release. They have sparkly fur! They were also released by Flair in the UK with a series of puzzles, but were less pink and may or may not have the sparkly fur. I'm only interested in the original Japanese version. |
|
Pink Cotton Rabbit Twins | 1999 Japanese fan club release. They came separately.
Pink Cotton Mother and Daughter | 2001 limited time Japanese release
Fisher Grey Cat Family | Had multiple pretty much identical releases, in 2007 and 2009 by International Playthings as Calico Critters in the US, and in 2008 and 2012 by Flair in the UK. All but the original UK releases also had twins.
Fisher Cat Grandparents | Were part of the US releases, and were released separately as two special releases in the UK
Barbara Dale | I like this newer version with the headpiece. This version was released in 2021 in Japan and 2022 in the UK.
Lona Dale | I like this newer version with the headpiece. This version was released in 2021 in Japan and 2022 in the UK.

Grace Cheshire | This version came with the 2007 Flair UK Ballroom Set which also had a later Epoch release.
Hazelnut Dormouse Family | Had a 2008 Japan (I think?), 2008 Flair UK and 2009 Epoch EU release, all the same.
Bob Blackberry | Came with the 2008 Flair UK Farmer's Cart and Pony Set.
Betty Blackberry | Came with the 2008 Flair and 2014 Epoch UK Juice and Figure Set. Original set had open hands, re-release had flat hands but maybe slightly whiter fur? Either is fine because of this. |
|
Yvette Blackberry | Came with the 2009 Flair UK Yvette's Rowing Boat Set.
Ingrid Blackberry | Came with the 2009 Flair UK Ingrid's Camping Set.
Jess Blackberry | Came in the 2010 Flair UK Rainbow Nursery Figure Set

Pink Momoiro Rabbit Sister | 2019 Japanese limited edition release. More pink in colour than the original.
Hokkaido Lavender Rabbits | Sold in 2009 in a single store on the island of Hokkaido in Japan
Buckley Red Deer Family | Pictured in the 2011 Flair UK release. I prefer the open hands from this version, but also slightly prefer the sister's dress in the 2019 Japanese version. The babies are fine in all versions, and in all versions they were released separately from the rest of the family.
Millie Buckley | Slightly prefer the 2012 Flair open-handed version, but the later Epoch release is the same otherwise. Came with the UK Cycling Adventure set.
Golightly Silk Cat Family | Quite a few releases, open-handed version maybe slightly preferred but they're all nice.
Lulu Golightly | From the 2019 Town Girl series
Henry-Lloyd Chocolate Dalmatian Family | 2009 Flair UK release. Babies came separately.
Trunk Elephant Family | Had a 2009 Flair UK, 2010 International Playthings Calico Critters US and 2016 Epoch Calico Critters US release. The open-handed version from the first two releases is preferred, otherwise they are the same. Twins came separately. Called the Ellwood Family in the US. |
|
Buttercup Friesian Cow Family | 2021 UK or Japanese release. The 2010 Flair UK release has open hands which is nice, but the 2021 versions have tails, which I love.

Robinson Red Panda Family | 2011 Flair UK version with open hands preferred
Marlowe Tuxedo Cat Family | 2008 Epoch Market Exclusive Japanese Release
Marlowe Tuxedo Cat Family | Family is pretty much the same from the 2011 Japanese release onwards. Some US versions bring back the triplet kittens, but the original 2008 Japanese version has better outfits for them.
Felicia Marlowe | From the 2019 Town Girl Series Fashion Playsets
Marlowe Baby Trio | Had a 2019 Japanese and 2020 UK release, both the same
Fletcher Border Collie Family | The 2016 International Playthings Calico Critters US, 2020 Epoch Calico Critters US and 2020 Epoch UK releases have nicer moulds than the original UK releases.
